Resolution: "A course of action determined or decided on." Good. Yet there is another definition: "The act or process of resolving something or breaking it up into its constituent parts or elements." Philosophically, I like the later one.
I don't know about you, but when I try to determine an action that holds true for a whole year, I feel a bit antsy. A year is a long time, and what if I don't keep to my decision? Would that mean I betrayed myself?
So, while I have general goals of things I would like to do, such as learn Spanish, go to Europe, stop eating so much chocolate, or take a couple of workshops, I have not committed.
Instead, I resolve to move towards my goals in parts one step at the time. I will start with one workshop that interests me. Done. Today I will only eat one piece of dark chocolate. Done. Today I will listen to a Spanish broadcast. Done.
Having my resolution be realistic for me is less daunting and makes it possible to follow. As well, I feel accomplished.
Happy New Year!
